MVA on Bruce Highway

January 20 2010

Around 4am this morning the RACQ – CQ RESCUE crew received a call to attend a single vehicle rollover 50 kilometres south of Sarina (approximately 10 kilometres north of Clairview) on the Bruce Highway.

On arrival they attended to a 27 year old male truck driver from Brisbane who sustained lacerations to his head and arms, a fractured right arm, internal injuries and possible spinal injuries. There was also a concern he may have a closed head injury.

The accident occurred just before 4am this morning when the truck left the road, crashed into a guard rail and rolled on to its roof, coming to a stop on a bridge.

RACQ – CQ RESCUE air crewman Darren Bobin said, “It appears the guard rail stopped the truck from ending up in the creek so he was quite lucky in that respect. The driver of the truck managed to extricate himself from the vehicle and was conscious when we arrived.”

It’s believed the man’s mobile phone was found embedded in the guard rail. He was treated at the scene by a QAS paramedic from the Carmila Ambulance Station before the rescue helicopter arrived. RACQ – CQ RESCUE transported the Regents Park man to Mackay Base Hospital arriving just after 6am.

The highway was blocked for several hours while the accident scene was cleared.
